TECHNICAL SKILLS

Engagement with a wide range of materials and processes from traditional craft to digital technology, as well as forms of installation, performance, and social practice
Extensive experience working with traditional artisans, from blacksmiths to lace makers, and with fabricators, using various methods from industrial fabrication to computer-aided design, as well as collaborating with project participants and working within institutions
Solid knowledge of fundamental basics and experience teaching the following: woodworking, joinery, relief carving, laminating, and use of various fillers, stains, paints, and varnishes; wire manipulation, welding, forging, metal fabrication, and armature construction; one- and two-part mold making and casting, including the use of plasters, concrete, waxes, clay slip, paper pulp, body casting materials, latex rubber, epoxy and polyester resins, thermoplastics, and polyurethane foams; ceramics, clay modeling and hand-building methods, slump and hump molds, self-hardening and polymer clay; assemblage techniques and use of found or recycled materials, various fasteners, grommets, adhesives and solvents; emphasis on shop safety and safety equipment, as well as archival methods and issues of sustainability
Expertise in hand sewing and use of both domestic and industrial sewing machines, various forms of needle work, printing of fabrics (silkscreen and digital inkjet), upholstery methods, and soft sculpture
Extensive experience using Mac computers, Microsoft Office: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe Photoshop; developing websites, blogs, social networks, mailing lists, and email campaigns; writing grants and applications, negotiating agreements, managing budgets and deadlines, conducting and synthesizing research, writing reports, managing publications
Extensive experience with lighting, photography, use of a copy stand and video and audio recording equipment to document artworks; studio archive methods, materials, and practical skills
Working knowledge of construction/building techniques, hanging of drywall, painting, lighting and other preparation for gallery installation and exhibition, as well as basic home maintenance and repair
